September 3, 2024. In its edition of August 31, 2024, the Ouest-France newspaper revealed the number of 21,000 tickets sold for the Route du Rock. This event takes place in several locations: Saint-Malo (beaches and intramural) and Fort Saint-Père in Saint-Père-Marc-en-Poulet, where young people also camp. The distance between these two points, taking the shortest route by road, is approximately 13 km, which is too far to make this trip on foot and at night after having exhausted themselves during the concerts.
The organization seeks to limit the use of individual vehicles and favour public transport. Based in the Rennes sector, RGO Mobilités has been offering a coach service for several years during the Route du Rock. The novelty for 2024 is that these units, normally used as school buses, are powered by Bio-NGV.
Festivals, which often attract young audiences, play the card of environmental awareness. It is the association Aremacs (Association for the respect of the environment during cultural and sporting events) that has launched various communication actions aimed at festival-goers. To draw attention to “a short, virtuous and local circuit”, the organization, for example, hung a banner informing that “food waste from the festival contributes to producing green gas and enriching the soil”.
For his part, the Transport Coordinator of RGO Mobilités, Youssef Ouagoulla, observed that this display attracted many festival-goers: “They were surprised to discover that the festival vehicles were powered by biogas. The reach of the communication was greater than in other years. About 50% of the people transported were sensitive to the carbon impact of the event.”
