March 16, 2026. The Peruvian Presidency of the Council of Ministers announced that 430,000 license plates now have activated chips, allowing their owners to refuel with compressed natural gas (CNG) at authorized filling stations throughout the country.
The announcement was made by the head of the cabinet, Denisse Millares, who indicated that the activation was reported by the entities responsible for the system. “COFIDE and Cálidda just reported to us that 430,000 license plates are now fully activated,” she stated.
The head of the cabinet specified that vehicles with activated plates can now go to authorized establishments to refuel. She detailed that a large number of filling stations are currently equipped to dispense CNG.
“That means those vehicles can now go to the stations to refuel with CNG. There are 361 service stations that are now fully operational,” she stated.
Millares explained that, despite the system’s general activation, 25 stations have reported needing to make technical adjustments to complete their operation.
