Potigás to provide financial assistance for conversion to natural gas

Taxi and app transport drivers who are interested in converting their cars to use CNG will receive assistance from Companhia Potiguar de Gás in Brazil.

February 3, 2022. Taxi and app transport drivers who are interested in converting their cars to use compressed natural gas (CNG) will receive assistance from Companhia Potiguar de Gás (Potigás) in Brazil.

According to the President of Potigás Larissa Dantas, the goal is to encourage conversion and increase the number of drivers who use the fuel. The payment of R$ 1,000 will be for the purchase and installation of a new kit in cars used exclusively for passenger transport. Initially, the focus is to benefit 200 users.

Although the cost of the gas kit is approximately R$ 4,000, varying according to the brand and the place of installation, Dantas explained that there are attractive financing lines from the Development Agency of Rio Grande do Norte (AGN) for people interested in making the conversion. “Nothing prevents the driver from receiving the R$ 1,000 aid and obtaining financing for the remaining R$ 3,000,” she explained.

Also, since February 1, filling stations that sell piped natural gas in Rio Grande do Norte are paying cheaper for the input. The rate reduction was authorized by the Regulatory Agency for Public Services (Arsep/RN) and published in the Official State Gazette. The decrease was around 10% and applies to all of Potigás’ operating segments. The CNG has a reduction of R$ 0.37.

Initially, the expectation was for an even greater reduction of 35%. However, according to the executive, the percentage had to be lower due to expenses, mainly with distribution.
