February 13, 2023. In the constant search for sustainable mobility options, Renault-Sofasa undertook the conversion of its entire line of models to run on compressed natural gas (CNG), carried out from the factory and without losing the original vehicle warranty. This process has been carried out for 10 years, during which time the firm has transformed more than 10,000 cars to this system.
CNG-powered units use direct injection technology, which reduces polluting emissions and operating costs for its users. For this reason, it is common to find this motor system in utility vehicles and all kinds of cars used for business.
The official conversion process is carried out at the authorized points that the brand has nationwide, on units with a range of use between zero and 9,999 kilometers. In addition, it is possible to do it in the entire range of Renault available in Colombia, both in passenger vehicles and in utility vehicles.
During the time that Renault-Sofasa has carried out the conversions to gas, a guarantee return rate of 0% has been obtained. Of these works, more than 300 were carried out during 2022.
“To date, our CNG conversion product allows us to provide confidence to the user, thanks to the work that has been carried out in the different processes involved in the assembly and operation of the vehicles. Today it is a reality and we can deliver transformations from the rooms of our network of dealers and allied workshops nationwide, complying with the regulations and regulations of the industry”, said Lucas Felipe Ocampo Angarita, Head of Segments and Transformations at Renault-Sofasa.
The car producer based in Envigado, Antioquia, highlights the circulation benefits obtained by those who have a CNG-powered vehicle. In addition to the environmental benefit, in some areas of the country they are exempt from Pico and Placa. Likewise, depending on the region, the type of unit and driving, the savings in its use can go from 25% to 35%.
Added to this, users can apply for bonds or financing mechanisms for the conversion. And, finally, those who make the decision to carry out this operation can carry it out maintaining the original factory warranty of two years or 50,000 km, whichever comes first, on vehicles with up to 9,999 km of use.
