July 29, 2026. The Municipality of Rosario, in the Argentine province of Santa Fe, is moving forward with a plan to renew its urban transportation system. By the end of 2026, the average age of the fleet will be reduced from 8 to 5 years, and more than 43% of the buses will be less than 3 years old.
In the coming months, 90 brand-new buses powered entirely by compressed natural gas (CNG) will be added to the fleet. 45 will be acquired by Rosario Bus and 45 by Movi. All buses will feature improvements in technology and comfort, allowing for better adherence to schedules and generating a significant impact on the quality of the system.
As a result of these additions, the entire system will be accessible and inclusive, as all buses are low-floor, facilitating passenger boarding, transfers, and alighting. Furthermore, all buses are equipped with air conditioning and heating.
This addition reduces fuel costs by approximately 50%, thus easing the burden on the system’s sustainability for the municipal government, given the elimination of national funding.
In addition to the economic benefits and increased comfort for users, the impact is also significant, as it reduces noise pollution by 50%, along with a notable decrease in CO, NOx, and CO2 emissions, resulting in a 40% savings in total operating costs.
