Rosario to have 45 CNG-powered buses

This marks the first time the urban transport fleet will feature this technology.

April 28, 2026. The city of Rosario, in the Argentine province of Santa Fe, will have 45 buses powered by compressed natural gas (CNG). This marks the first time the urban transport fleet will feature this technology, thanks to a purchase made by the Municipality through the company Movi. This acquisition complements the 207 buses put into service in recent months.

Public Tender No. 1/2026 for the “Purchase of New CNG Buses for Urban Passenger Transport in the City of Rosario – Movi Rosario” has an official budget of 15,975,000,000 Argentine pesos. The closing date for the call for bids and the subsequent opening of the envelopes is scheduled for May 6.

Among the requirements outlined in the tender specifications is compliance with Euro 5 standards, which reduce carbon dioxide emissions and noise pollution. The vehicle must have a rear engine and meet the accessibility requirements of the system, such as low-floor units for easier access and air conditioning.

Among its main features, in addition to not using diesel fuel, are a reduction in fuel costs and a 50% decrease in noise pollution, along with a significant reduction in CO, NOx, and CO2 emissions, achieving a 40% savings in total operating costs.

The differences compared to the current units serving the city are notable: more advanced technology, reduced noise, minimal vibration, improved visibility, a better steering system, enhanced braking capacity, smoother gearbox operation, and a superior climate control system.

This type of system has already been implemented in other urban transport systems in the country, such as the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area and Mendoza, among others, with successful results in all cases.
