December 22, 2025. Suzuki Motor Corporation and Suzuki R&D Center India Private Limited (SRDI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Suzuki in India, held the opening ceremony of Banas Suzuki Biogas Plant, located in Agthala, Banaskantha district, Gujarat, on December 6, 2025. It is Suzuki’s first plant to produce and sell biogas as fuel for CNG vehicles (CBG).
In September 2023, Suzuki signed an agreement with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and dairy industry union Banas Dairy (headquartered in Banaskantha, Gujarat) through SRDI, and has been proceeding with the construction of the biogas plant.
Banas Suzuki Biogas Plant plans to produce and sell 1.5 tons of CBG per day from a maximum of 100 tons of cow dung. At the same time, they will produce and sell organic fertilizer. Approximately 1.5 tons of CBG is equivalent to the amount of fuel required for approximately 850 unit of CNG vehicles per day.
Comments from Toshihiro Suzuki, Representative Director and President of Suzuki “Suzuki’s first biogas plant has commenced operations. We are committed to achieving a carbon-neutral and a recycling-based society by harnessing the rich resources found in rural India. We firmly believe that this initiative, pursued in partnership with the dairy co-operative of India, will unleash the significant potential inherent in rural communities and foster regional prosperity. In line with our corporate slogan, “By Your Side,” Suzuki will move forward with our biogas business, standing alongside India’s robust growth.”
