December 3, 2021. The introduction of three Scania buses positions the Spanish city in a scenario  that watches over the environment, wanting to reduce its emissions, with sustainability and efficiency as objectives.

This commitment by the City Council of Ciudad Real for a clean and sustainable environment, includes a facelift of the fleet of urban buses that circulates through the city. Scania’s first vehicles have now joined the fleet and are powered by compressed natural gas (CNG).

These units consist of a Scania model N 280 UB*2 frame and a Castrosua body. It is the urban low-floor chassis with two axles and, in addition, they have a Euro 6 engine of nine liters, five cylinders and 280 hp that offers a torque of 1,350 Nm. These characteristics allow great energy savings and exceptional dynamics of its kinematic chain. Its autonomy of 500 kilometers is one of its attractions.

These are buses of 10.2 meters in length and 2.55 in width and a capacity for 55 standing passengers and 19 seats. In addition, they have a ramp for people with reduced mobility, a lateral tilt system, USB chargers and an audible and visual warning of the next stop.

“The reliability of Scania vehicles and the efficiency of the CNG engine offer the optimal equation for urban transport that guarantees maximum environmental and economic sustainability. CNG and Bio-CNG are one of the most sustainable options in this type of urban fleets due to the significant savings in operating costs throughout the life of the vehicle. A solution that cities such as Madrid, Palma, Seville, Salamanca, Toledo and, now, Ciudad Real have opted for” comments Pedro Cotera, Scania Ibérica’s Urban Bus Area Manager.
