Toledo will be able to close its landfill thanks to a CNG garbage truck

The new Iveco unit runs on compressed natural gas, reducing operating costs by up to 70%.

August 27, 2025. The city of Toledo, Spain, will be able to close its open-air landfill after receiving a garbage collection and compactor truck from the Córdoba Metropolitan Authority. This way, waste will no longer be stored in the city and will be transported directly to the Piedras Blancas Environmental Complex for recovery or final disposal.

“This process, which began three years ago, is now consolidated with twenty-seven municipalities in the metropolitan area working together to solve common problems. This will make this region stronger and more competitive, because it is the heart of the most productive province in our country,” said Rodrigo Fernández, President of the Metropolitan Authority, during the event, who shared the stage with Lieutenant Governor Myrian Prunotto.

With an investment of 185 million pesos, the new Iveco unit runs on compressed natural gas (CNG), reducing operating costs by up to 70% and, in turn, cutting CO2 emissions by 45%, consolidating a sustainable environmental management model for the region.

For his part, Toledo Mayor Sergio Marín stated: “I want to thank the Metropolitan Authority for its support. Today we have this brand-new truck, which will not only improve waste collection services but also reduce environmental pollution.”

This year, the metropolitan authority will deliver a total of five waste collection trucks. The next will be for the city of Saldán.
