March 6, 2023. With a total of 133 units sold in January of this year, the sale of vehicles dedicated to compressed natural gas (CNG) grew by 533% in Colombia. From 2020 to date, growth was driven by heavy-duty trucks, which for the month of January represented 88%.
According to the report on Alternative Energy Sources and Fuels, presented by Fenalco and Naturgas, trucks and buses are also part of the main types of transportation dedicated to natural gas, with a representation of 9% and 3% respectively. It should be noted that, prior to 2020, the sale of gas vehicles grew mainly due to buses, vans and minibuses.
The CNG vehicle brands with the highest number of registrations in January were Scania, with a 42.9% market share, and Faw, with 32.3%.
In addition, the report details that the sale of hybrid, electric and gasoline vehicles decreased.
Overall, by January 2023 there were a total of 13,852 new vehicle registrations. Of which, 63.1% are gasoline combustion, 26.2% diesel, 8.4% are hybrids, 1.3% are electric, 0.96% are natural gas units and 0.02% are vehicles with another type of fuel.
