Torrejón de Ardoz City Council installs a CNG station

The facility is located with 8 filling points and each full charge takes between 5-7 minutes.

July 17, 2024. The Mayor of Torrejón de Ardoz, Alejandro Navarro Prieto, and the Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Urban Cleaning, Works, Contracting and Administration, Valeriano Díaz, have presented the new compressed natural gas (CNG) refilling station that will be used by the vehicles used for the daily cleaning of the streets of the Spanish city. The facility is located with 8 filling points and each full charge takes between 5-7 minutes.

Currently, the Torrejón de Ardoz City Council has a total of 41 cleaning vehicles that run on natural gas, a less polluting type of fuel than those derived from petroleum. In addition, the cleaning service also has other electric units that do not pollute either.

“This new initiative will help improve the city’s air quality and is another contribution to the fight against climate change, applying the Sustainable Development goals of the 2030 Agenda,” said the Mayor, Alejandro Navarro Prieto.

“By using this type of vehicle, instead of others that run on petroleum derivatives as the main fuel, we help preserve the environment by emitting less gases into the atmosphere,” added the Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Urban Cleaning, Works, Contracting and Administration, Valeriano Díaz.

There has been no cost to the City Council, as its construction has been financed by the company awarded the street cleaning contract.
