July 17, 2021. Total Italia and Blu Way inaugurated the start of the distribution of liquefied biomethane at the BLU circuit stations. The event was held at one of the Blu Way network stations in San Maurizio Canavese (Turin), a few weeks after the start-up of the bio-industry plant in Verolanuova (Brescia), where the fuel destined for Blu Way facilities is produced thanks to Total Italia.
The project is part of a broader strategic plan that joins Blu Way and Total Italia and that aims to contribute significantly to the reduction of the average intensity of carbon emitted by the energy products used.
It is an innovative initiative in the market: firstly, because Blu Way will be the first operator in Italy to undertake the commitment to distribute a minimum percentage of liquefied biomethane in the stations of its network and, secondly, because Total Italia will implement a control and monitoring system of the product supply chain designed to ensure a timely verification of the quantities of liquid biomethane delivered and compliance with the minimum quotas of product of natural origin in the different refueling stations.
The estimated reduction of CO2 emissions in a vehicle powered by liquefied biomethane, compared to a Euro VI diesel, reaches up to 80%, while compared to a unit fueled by fossil liquefied natural gas (LNG) up to 65%, this without considering the significant impacts on the reduction of nitrogen oxide (NOx) and fine dust.
Filippo Redaelli, CEO of Total Italia stated: “We are pleased to carry out the project with Blu Way from Rete Spa, the foundations of which were laid a few months ago thanks to a partnership for the development and promotion of the LNG supply in our country. Total Italia, in line with the company’s objectives, it is carrying out various projects in accordance with the net zero climate objective and this is another important element of our multi-energy offer”.
Marco Lucà, CEO of Blu Way Srl, stated: “The objective of Blu Way is to be able to supply the vehicles of the stations of its network 100% with biomethane, to have an increasingly virtuous production and to ensure a true circular economy”.
