February 12, 2024. In February 2023, Volvo Trucks innovated by expanding its liquefied natural gas (LNG) offering with a new engine: the 500 HP, which complements the 420 and 460 HP engines already available. The first two new generation LNG vehicles were delivered last December to Frédéric and Pascal Megevand, the two brothers directors of the Transports Megevand firm.

The transport company, based in Sillingy, Haute-Savoie, has been a loyal customer of Volvo since 2004 and of natural gas engines since 2013, with the first Volvo “Dual Fuel” and then the first generation LNG 460 in 2021. 60% of the fleet currently operates on natural gas, 7 of which are equipped with an LNG engine and 5 with compressed natural gas (CNG).

With this latest 500 HP version, Transports Megevand has 3 generations of Volvo natural gas vehicles.

“With our Volvo LNG units, we get even better energy efficiency than with a Volvo I-Save. 1,000 kilometers are reached with fairly low consumption, up to 21 kg/100 km. As for the drivers, they are convinced and very satisfied. There is no difference in driving behavior and the equipment is there: on-board technology, adaptive LED headlights, side radars and cameras,” explains Frédéric Megevand.

Likewise, the executive added that “we recharge our vehicles at LNG stations located on the Rhône Valley – Languedoc axis, and we have our own CNG facility, so we have no limitations.”
