October 3, 2023. The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism of Spain, in its aid program aimed at supporting innovative business groups, has granted a subsidy of almost 300,000 euros to two projects led by Gasnam-Neutral Transport to promote the development of carbon-neutral maritime transport.

The NEWBunker II project will analyze the state of the art in marine propulsion systems with renewable and synthetic fuels, including Bio-LNG, Bio-LPG and e-methanol. The objective is to identify the different modalities of supply to ships (bunkering), depending on the energy storage and generation system installed on board. In the first edition, propulsion and bunkering systems with LNG, ammonia and hydrogen were analyzed.

NEWBunker II is a project led by Gasnam-Neutral Transport, which has the participation of its partners: Gas Natural Comercializadora (Naturgy), ESK, Siport21, TESICNOR and the Energy Technology Institute (ITE). This initiative has received a grant of more than 160,000 euros in the 2023 call.

For its part, the NEOBUQ project will develop a simulator to determine the economic and environmental return during the operation of different types of ships, of those measures carried out to achieve the restrictive climate objectives faced by the maritime sector. To this end, the project will develop a correlation between the input data to establish a precise link between cost and sustainability with the aim of making technical modifications or adaptations to the ships in a practical way. In the first edition, the eco-efficiency criteria were analyzed during the design phase of the vessels.

NEOBUQ, which is led by Gasnam-Neutral Transport and has the participation of its partners Cotenaval and Siport21, has received more than 133,000 euros in aid from the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism.
