May 9, 2023. YEGO ECO-T, one of the sustainable mobility brands of the Plexa group, inaugurates its natural gas fleet for low-emission cargo transport, thus adding to the Colombian government’s commitment to reduce by 51% greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030.
According to Juan Carlos Montoya, General Manager of Plexa, “the brand provides an ecosystem of solutions for load generators and for truck owners in Colombia, in which all the facilities that allow the energy transition from diesel to gas are connected in the transport sector with high levels of efficiency”.
For the businessman, the main problem in the cargo transportation sector is the age of his vehicle fleet, which makes it one of the main sources of air pollutants in the country. The average age of the vehicles is more than 20 years, which means that they have outdated technology in more than 95% of cases, operating with polluting liquid fuel that contributes about 15% of Colombia’s GHG emissions.
“It is for this reason that we are betting on competitive and available technology in the country, such as natural gas for vehicles, through a new fleet of 40 trucks, to which we expect 300 more to join through the alliances we have established with small transporters, whom we support in their conversion process to more environmentally friendly fuels”, Montoya points out.
