October 18, 2023. In its efforts to reduce the cost of transportation, the Government of the Nigerian State of Borno will partner with African Motors Limited to convert intercity and intra-city buses powered by oil and diesel to compressed natural gas (CNG) to cushion the effect of the elimination of the fuel subsidy.
While inspecting the prototypes at Government House, Governor Babagaba Zulum said: “With the continuous increase in the price of diesel, very soon the intra-city transport fare will not be affordable, so we will convert these 70 units to natural gas.”
In an earlier briefing, Zulum and the Managing Director of African Motors Limited, Musatapa Gajibo, stated that they converted vehicles and Keke NAPEP from oil to natural gas, to reduce the cost of mobility caused by the increase in the value of oil.”
The executive explained that “CNG costs only about N2,300 for 6kg compared to N6,000 for liquid fuels.
