New natural gas filling station on the Ruta del Sol

Cargo and passenger transporters powered by natural gas will be able to travel without supply problems of this fuel, between the south and center of Colombia towards the Caribbean Coast.

January 31, 2024. Cargo and passenger transporters powered by natural gas will be able to travel without supply problems of this fuel, between the south and center of Colombia towards the Caribbean Coast, thanks to the inauguration of the new Gas Natural Frontera refueling station, located on the Ruta del Sol, near the tollbooth of the municipality of Pailitas, Cesar and built by Vanti.

The Vice Minister of Transportation, Eduardo Enríquez, the President of Naturgas, Luz Stella Murgas, and the President of Vanti, Rodolfo Anaya, participated in the inauguration. The commissioning of this facility is a milestone for the region and for national transportation, since it has modern equipment that will allow ultra-fast filling of tractor-trailers and intermunicipal buses that use natural gas.

“Natural gas is an energy source with the capacity to contribute to decarbonization thanks to its environmental attributes, affordability, availability and technological efficiency. It is a key energy source for the transportation sector’s transition to cleaner alternatives, due to its reductions in emissions of fine particulate matter and sulfur oxides of 99.9%, in nitrogen oxides of up to 75% and in carbon dioxide between 30 and 50% (compared to diesel and gasoline respectively),” said Luz Stella Murgas, President of Naturgas.

For his part, the Vice Minister of Transportation, Eduardo Enriquez, noted that: “this new service station is established in one of the busiest corridors in Colombia, connecting transportation between the center and the Caribbean Coast. “This is how we promote the energy transition, with benefits in competitiveness and air quality.”

Likewise, Rodolfo Anaya, President of Vanti, stated that: “the Vanti Group continues to expand the natural gas vehicles infrastructure in the country’s freight corridors to increase the competitiveness of transporters and reduce emissions, understanding natural gas as the axis of the energy transition”.

This is the consolidation of a connecting axis of one of the national freight corridors with the highest traffic in Colombia, which will serve to interconnect the transport of cargo and passengers on the most important route that serves to transport goods between the center of the country and its Caribbean coast. With this milestone, the possibility opens up for companies in the country to have more natural gas trucks in their fleet, as Bavaria, Postobón, Huevos Kikes, OPL, PLEXA, Alpina, among others, currently do, which have seen benefits in terms of competitiveness, thanks to the low cost of natural gas for vehicles and air quality.
