GLA, Scania, and Lipigas accelerate clean transportation with a new fleet of LNG trucks

June 21, 2025. In a new step toward cleaner and more efficient transportation, Transportes GLA received a fleet of R 460 Euro 6 liquefied natural gas (LNG) trucks as part of a strategic alliance with Scania Chile and Lipigas. The latter will be responsible for providing the fuel, ensuring the necessary supply for the operation.

The initiative seeks to continue promoting more sustainable logistics solutions for key industries in the country, such as retail and the salmon sector. With this delivery, Transportes GLA strengthens its commitment to technological innovation and environmental protection, incorporating a solution that significantly reduces polluting emissions and improves operational efficiency over long hauls.

“With this new fleet of trucks, we hope our customers will invest in this LNG truck technology, helping them reach their markets in a more sustainable and efficient way,” said Esteban Alveal, Director of Transportes GLA.

Scania Chile highlighted the transformative value of this project. “These types of events remind us why we do what we do. The delivery of this fleet of LNG trucks not only represents an important commercial transaction, but also reflects the conviction that the shift toward a sustainable transportation system is possible, and that we are building it together,” said María José Herrera, Director of People, Culture, and Sustainability at Scania Chile.

For its part, Lipigas—a Lipiandes Group company—will play a central role in ensuring fuel availability through its network of filling stations. “Lipigas LNG’s role in this project is to develop the nationwide refueling infrastructure. Today, we already have a corridor of five operating service stations nationwide, supplying natural gas to fleets in important sectors such as the salmon and retail industries in the south-central region, and the mining industry in northern Chile,” said Nicolás Hidalgo, Deputy Manager of LNG and Biofuels at Lipigas LNG.
