More than 155,000 Peruvian vehicles use natural gas thanks to the NGV Savings program

More than 155,000 vehicles nationwide use natural gas instead of gasoline or other petroleum-derived fuels.

August 20, 2025. More than 155,000 vehicles nationwide use natural gas instead of gasoline or other petroleum-derived fuels, as part of the transition to cheaper and less polluting energy promoted by the Government through the Energy Social Inclusion Fund (FISE) and the NGV Savings program.

From Chiclayo, Lambayeque region, the Deputy Minister of Hydrocarbons of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM), Iris Cárdenas Pino, highlighted that this program finances the conversion of vehicles to compressed natural gas (CNG), which allows for a reduction of up to 65% in gasoline costs and up to 34% in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), improving the economy of thousands of Peruvians.

“The arrival of natural gas has generated important changes for Peru since its production. This source will allow for the development of industry and better transportation services, providing quality of life for the population,” she emphasized during the ceremony recognizing the 155,000th beneficiary of the NGV Savings program.

The Vice Minister stated that this figure reflects the decisive role of natural gas in the energy transition process, reaffirming the need to replace polluting fuels with sustainable, domestic sources.

She also noted that the MINEM promotes the use of cleaner, lower-emission fuels, and that NGV Savings also contributes to the country’s economic balance by reducing dependence on imported fuels.

For his part, FISE Executive Director Francisco Torres emphasized that since 2021, the NGV Savings program has been developed with a social focus, ensuring that no driver is left out of the energy transition for economic reasons.

“In Lambayeque, we have financed the conversion of more than 1,800 vehicles, and we are confident that with the upcoming opening of the third CNG station in Chiclayo, this number will increase rapidly,” he said. He added that the program offers interest-free, down payment-free financing, with a flexible and affordable payment system.
