November 25, 2025. Grupo HAM and HAM Chile, in partnership with Empresas Lipigas, inaugurated their first Bio-LNG (renewable liquefied natural gas) upgrading and production plant in South America, located in the Ñuble region. This milestone will enable the production of liquid biomethane from biogas, which will be sold by Lipigas to supply Chilean transportation companies and industries, contributing to the country’s energy transition.
The new plant is distinguished by its modular, containerized, “plug & play” design, comprised of six independent and easily interconnected modules: three dedicated to biogas treatment (cleaning and liquefaction) and three for auxiliary services, such as water and dry air supply. Thanks to this configuration, the installation was completed in a short timeframe and with rapid commissioning.
Bio-LNG is obtained from biogas generated in an anaerobic co-digestion plant, which processes organic waste from the swine industry. The fully automated and remotely managed system will have a processing capacity of 7,500 m³/day of biogas in its first phase, with the goal of reaching 16,500 m³/day at full capacity. The biomethane produced will serve as a raw material for Lipigas service stations, where it will supply the fleets of freight trucks that travel throughout Chile, with the aim of decarbonizing the road transport sector.
The Ñuble plant joins other operational projects of the HAM Group in Girona (Spain) and Faenza (Italy), consolidating its international leadership in Bio-LNG and expanding its presence in Latin America with new initiatives under development.
