May 23, 2026. Baleària Canarias is reinforcing its commitment to the Canary Islands archipelago with the addition of the new eco-efficient fast ferry Mercedes Pinto to its fleet. The vessel, which will operate on routes between Las Palmas, Morro Jable, and Tenerife, will strengthen maritime connectivity between the islands with a service offering based on eco-efficiency, operational reliability, and an enhanced passenger experience.

The arrival of the Mercedes Pinto is part of Baleària Canarias’ fleet expansion and modernization plan, aimed at incorporating more innovative, technologically advanced vessels adapted to the mobility needs of residents, tourists, and logistics companies. This addition reinforces the shipping company’s commitment to high-quality maritime connectivity in the Canary Islands, where maritime transport plays a vital role in territorial cohesion, inter-island mobility, and economic activity. The ferry is scheduled to undergo docking trials in the coming days at various ports throughout the archipelago.

With an investment of €128 million, the Mercedes Pinto is positioned as a benchmark for eco-efficiency in high-speed maritime transport. The vessel is equipped with dual-fuel engines that allow the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and biogas, a CO2-neutral fuel.

The 123-meter-long ship reaches a speed of 35 knots and has a capacity for 1,200 passengers and 425 vehicles. As a smart ship, the Mercedes Pinto stands out for the digitalization of its services and for accommodations designed for maximum passenger comfort.
