Lima and Callao to standardize public transport NGV and diesel buses

The Urban Transport Authority for Lima and Callao, Peru, published the Standard Project for a Standard Bus for Natural Gas Vehicle and Diesel.

June 22, 2021. In order to standardize the fleet that enters to provide the public transport service, within the framework of the renewal process of the vehicle fleet with environmentally friendly units, the Urban Transport Authority for Lima and Callao (ATU), Peru, published the Standard Project for a Standard Bus for Natural Gas Vehicle (NGV) and Diesel.

Through resolution No. 009-2021-ATU/DIR, published in the official gazette El Peruano, the technical specifications regarding the bodywork, fuel, engine type, technology, safety, accessibility and passenger comfort are established.

The NGV and diesel master bus has different characteristics to adapt to both the needs of the travel demand and the geography of the city. These vehicles can be articulated of 9, 12 and 18 meters, or bi-articulated of 27 meters with a capacity of between 40 and 250 passengers.

The natural gas bus is expected to have a minimum autonomy of 250 km per hour while its diesel equivalent will have a minimum autonomy of 300 km per hour.

A relevant point of the standard is the look towards a sustainable change that contributes to protecting the environment. Therefore, the incorporation of vehicles for public transport must comply with the Euro V and VI regulations.

The entity pointed out that it is working towards an important change in the public transport service offering thousands of people from Lima and Callao a safe, comfortable and universally accessible service. At the same time, it promotes the incorporation of clean technologies in order to achieve an integrated public transport system, friendly to the environment and thus have a quality service for the benefit of citizens.

It specified that, as part of the inclusive policies, these units will have ramps and platforms with elevators to facilitate access for people with reduced mobility. They will also have inside WiFi, cell phone chargers, ventilation system, air conditioning, a rack for bicycles in the front, among other technical characteristics.
