January 1, 2023. The Minister of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs of the Dominican Republic, Víctor Bisonó, reported that the Government is working to grant permits to supply natural gas for vehicles (NGV) at the different fuel stations in the country.
The official defended the initiative saying that it is sought that derivatives of hydrocarbons, called clean energy, are gaining ground in the Dominican Republic; In this way, whoever installs the natural gas conversion system will be able to have more access to its supply.
“We are promoting that natural gas is gaining ground and for this the Ministry as regulator makes it easier for gas to be installed in fuel outlet centers, to guarantee more access to the NGV supply in the national territory,” he explained.
He added that within the agenda of relaunching and commitment to this plan, declared a high priority, the Government has socialized with the private sector the instructions or guide for the inclusion of compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), in which have adapted the safety criteria of international standards and the National Fire Protection Association of the United States.
Since the installation of the conversion system is expensive, Bisonó assured that there is already an initiative aimed at facilitating access to financing for the purchase of the equipment or the vehicle already prepared.
“There is a plan that has been made with a trust with the Banco de Reservas and that the Ministry has contributed RD$ 100 million, to promote the conversion or acquisition of cargo trucks. For the passenger or light transport we are studying two proposals: one with the urban mobility actors and another so that it can be offered openly to everyone”, he said.
