January 2, 2023. The Municipal Transport Company of Palma (EMT) has presented the first four 18-meter buses powered by natural gas that will join the entity’s fleet in the coming days.

According to the person in charge of Sustainable Mobility, Francesc Dalmau, with these vehicles the second phase of the renewal of the EMT vehicle fleet begins. “We are committed not only to gas units but also to more pioneering fuels such as electricity and hydrogen,” said the official, recalling that this commitment to renewing the fleet allows them “to be prepared for the possible increase in passengers as a result of the free public transport and the EMT Palma from January 2023”.

These are the first copies to arrive in Palma and are part of the second phase of the renewal of the fleet, which will allow up to 165 vehicles to have been replaced, which represents more than 90% of the total.

The buses that have been shown in the EMT Palma garages are four of the total of 44 new 18-meter articulated buses that will be arriving from now on and that have involved an investment of more than 17.9 million euros and were awarded to Scania company. They have been manufactured in Castrosua SA and allow for a 95% reduction in polluting particles.

The second phase of renewal of the EMT Palma fleet means the arrival of a total of 165 new vehicles. Most are 18-meter buses and powered by gas. Likewise, it is expected that 4 mini buses of 8 meters with natural gas, five units of 12 meters of hydrogen and 12 electric with battery and overnight charging in garages will arrive.
