99 invites associated drivers to perform tests with CNG

99, a Brazilian technology company dedicated to urban mobility, launches a pilot project for the rental of the CNG conversion kit for associated drivers.

December 24 2021. At this time of economic crisis, with fuel prices increasing well beyond inflation, 99, a Brazilian technology company dedicated to urban mobility, takes another step to collaborate with the profits of drivers associated with the platform. It is a pilot project for the rental of the compressed natural gas (CNG) conversion kit.

Depending on the vehicle model, the installation can generate monthly savings of around R$ 1,500 on average, for those who use the car with high frequency. This is because CNG is more efficient than other fuels. With natural gas, in the city of São Paulo, according to data from the National Petroleum Agency (ANP), each kilometer traveled costs an average of R $0.32 for the driver (considering an average price of R$ 4.25 per cubic meter of CNG). With gasoline, this price rises to R$ 0.66 per kilometer traveled (considering the average price of R$ 6.64 per liter).

In this pilot project, for the moment, the CNG kit will be delivered to 100 associated drivers in the city of São Paulo, where routes are generally longer. However, the forecast is to expand the initiative to other cities where 99 operates, starting in 2022.

“We are testing various alternatives to deal with the growing fuel crisis. At 99, we believe in building solutions together with our partners and therefore we are going to test the feasibility of the project in collaboration with our drivers. We hope that the initiative will bring real benefits, with savings and advantages for those who drive through the platform”, declares Livia Pozzi, Director of Operations and Products of 99.

The CNG kit must be installed in an accredited workshop and the service will be provided after signing a contract. For the first 50 selected volunteers, 99 also grants a bonus of R$ 200 to be used for natural gas refueling.
