The ANDI NATURGAS Hydrogen Association announced its transformation into the ANDI NATURGAS Hydrogen and Renewable Gases Association, expanding its strategic scope with the integration of biogas and biomethane as essential vectors of the energy transition. This was announced at the 3rd Hydrogen and Energy Efficiency Congress, held at the Cartagena Convention Center in Colombia.
This decision represents a key step in the sector’s evolution toward a more diverse, sustainable, and inclusive energy model. “The Hydrogen Association is evolving. This new strategic line recognizes the value of all available resources—hydrogen, biogas, and biomethane—as drivers of transformation for the country,” said Karen Peralta, Director of the Association.
The new Association will promote an agenda aligned with the Hydrogen Roadmap and the Just Energy Transition, which prioritizes the creation of regional clean energy hubs in strategic departments such as Atlántico, Bolívar, Antioquia, Valle del Cauca, and La Guajira, where industrial capacity, infrastructure, and business will converge.
Among the planned actions are the development of a regulatory framework for biomethane certificates of origin, the promotion of new legislative initiatives that expand incentives for renewable gases, and support for utility companies interested in incorporating biomethane into their energy portfolios.
“The country produces 12,000 tons of organic waste. If we reclaim it by directing it toward energy use in biogas and biomethane, we can produce 100 million cubic feet of renewable natural gas per day for the Colombian energy matrix, reducing the carbon intensity of energy uses and positively impacting the quality of life of people in rural and urban areas,” said Marco Sanjuán, President of the Board of Directors of the Association of Hydrogen and Renewable Gases.
