Argentina creates Innovation Table on Natural Gas Vehicle Technologies

The Table will identify and analyze the possible needs for adaptation and regulatory updating, ensuring the safety of the CNG system and encouraging the rational use of gas in vehicles.

April 4, 2022. The National Gas Regulatory Entity (ENARGAS) of the Argentine Republic has formed the Technological Innovation Table – “Natural Gas Vehicle Technologies” – in order to know the “State of the Art” in relation to the technical security perspectives related to the conversion/transformation of conventional diesel cycle engines for dual/mixed diesel-natural gas propulsion, and to be able to identify and analyze the possible needs for adaptation and regulatory updating, ensuring the safety of the compressed natural gas (CNG) system and encouraging the rational use of gas in vehicles powered by this fuel, fundamentally for cargo and/or passenger transport in urban, interurban, medium and long-distance areas.

Various actors and sectors, public bodies, research institutions, specialized academic institutions, suppliers, equipment and technology developers, certification and standardization bodies, without prejudice to any other interested in the matter, may participate ad honorem in this area.

In the Resolution that gave rise to the Table, the high development of natural gas vehicle in the country is highlighted, which began with Decree No. 1752/87, by which the use of CNG was declared of national interest to replace liquid fuels and that allowed its application throughout the Argentine territory. Since then, the natural gas-powered fleet and related industry have developed uninterruptedly and with a high level of safety, managing to be part of a process of technological and industrial development.
