November 2, 2022. The National Gas Regulatory Entity (ENARGAS) of the Argentine Republic ordered the approval of the technical standard called NAG-420 “Requirements for authorization to supply CNG to Passenger and Cargo Transport Vehicles”, which establishes the requirements for the extension of the qualification of the filling stations previously authorized by the licensees of the public distribution service in accordance with the NAG-418 Standard, so that they can safely operate the supply of natural gas to be used as vehicular fuel throughout the national territory.
The development of the initiative was carried out taking into account the promotion and viability of policies aimed at improving the quality and efficiency of the public land transport service for passengers or cargo, in terms of healthier mobility by reducing pollutants gaseous and noise emissions; the reduction of its costs through the implementation of a fuel with a lower relative price; the rational use of energy, by promoting the use of an alternative that is friendlier to the environment, available and abundant; and the operational efficiency of the gas system, due to the flat (non-seasonal) characteristics of natural gas consumption that could be generated through its use to fuel transport vehicles, or waste collection in places of high urban concentration. In addition, it could also favor the development of a national industry with high added value, with export potential, generating new sources of work and collateral industrial activities.
The measure establishes that after 180 consecutive days, counted from the date of publication in the Official Gazette of the Resolution that approves the NAG-420 Standard, transport vehicles may be supplied with CNG, exclusively at filling stations that have the extension of the authorization in accordance with the terms of said regulations.
