Argentina opens public consultation to regulate load coupling for CNG transport

The National Gas Regulatory Entity decided to submit to public consultation the regulatory control of a coupling device for the loading of compressed natural gas (CNG).

January 2, 2022. In order to facilitate policies aimed at promoting the use of natural gas as fuel for vehicles used to transport passengers and cargo, the National Gas Regulatory Entity (ENARGAS) decided to submit to public consultation the regulatory control of a coupling device for the loading of compressed natural gas (CNG).

The device will be analyzed through the ISO 14469 (2017) “Road Vehicles -Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Refueling Connector” standards; CSA/ANSI NGV1 (2017) “Compressed Natural Gas Vehicle (NGV) Fueling Connection Devices” and UNECE R-110 (2015) “Regulation No. 110 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE)”.

The public consultation, established by Resolution No. 489/2021, is aimed at encouraging the development of a new natural gas demand pole that will enable healthier mobility by reducing gaseous and sound polluting emissions, particularly valuable in areas of high urban concentration and a decrease in logistics costs, road transport of passengers and cargo, due to the use of a fuel with a lower relative price.

According to the ENARGAS controller, Lic. Federico Bernal, “we intend to promote a safe and rational use of energy to encourage the use of available and abundant fuel and an improvement in the energy trade balance and savings in subsidies, due to the substitution of imported liquid fuels”.

The official added that, after analyzing the proposals presented and approving the rule resulting from this consultation, “we will have a regulatory framework on the Load Coupling Device for the vehicles in question, which will favor the use of a system that will reduce supply times, minimize gaseous and sound emissions and guarantee a safer use in the supply instance. We must not lose sight of the fact that the reduction of these times is an essential guideline in the decision regarding the fuel to be used in their units”.
