March 12, 2025. Baleària and Axpo Iberia have marked a new milestone in the decarbonization of maritime transport by making the first Bio-LNG deliveries a reality from the two Enagás terminals in Huelva and Barcelona, Spain. These operations have been made possible thanks to the recent announcement of a pioneering Bio-LNG supply service at these regasification plants, in line with Enagás’ commitment to continue contributing to achieving European decarbonization goals.

From the Huelva terminal, supplies were facilitated to the port of Málaga, where Baleària operates the route to Melilla with the innovative Rusadir ferry. From the Barcelona terminal, Bio-LNG was supplied to the fast ferry Margarita Salas, which connects Barcelona with Mallorca and Menorca.

These operations have successfully loaded Bio-LNG directly onto ships, thanks to the adaptation of terminals to process the renewable fuel, which is obtained from biomethane injected into the gas grid and processed into liquid form. In this regard, Baleària and Axpo have demonstrated the feasibility of establishing green corridors between European ports, or even connecting two continents, as in the case of the route through the Alboran Sea.
