December 17, 2025. Baleària and the ports of Valencia and Palma have signed a collaboration agreement to develop Spain’s first maritime green corridor. The initiative, which promotes the decarbonization of the maritime-port sector, sets 2030 as the target year for operating with zero emissions on this route, through the use of biofuels in the two Baleària vessels that provide passenger and freight transport services on this line.
Baleària aims to decarbonize the Valencia-Palma route by 2030. To achieve this, it will dedicate two of its vessels to this route, equipped with dual-fuel engines that will run exclusively on biogas by 2030, thus achieving zero emissions. In addition, the company will incorporate onboard batteries to provide renewable electricity for auxiliary uses during navigation and will install onboard OPS connection systems.
Baleària’s President, Adolfo Utor, emphasized that this is a pioneering project for the decarbonization of the Spanish maritime sector: “It is a sustainable, competitive strategy that will anticipate the 2050 zero-emissions target by two decades. The Valencia-Palma route will be the first green corridor between two Spanish ports. This public-private partnership will represent a significant step forward in the mobility of passengers and essential goods between the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands.”
For their part, the port authorities of Valencia and the Balearic Islands, as part of their decarbonization plans, will accelerate the construction of battery charging infrastructure in port and explore the availability and development of low-carbon fuel supplies.
