January 10, 2024. The Urban Community of Caen la Mer, in France, continues its commitment to the environment by launching a new phase of its initiative aimed at replacing all diesel buses on the Twisto network. In addition to the 50 natural biogas vehicles that currently circulate on the network, 15 new buses have been received and are being progressively deployed on the different lines.
Thanks to a reduced average emission from 121 kg of CO2 every 100km (with diesel) to 25 kg of CO2 every 100km (with biogas), this ecological and responsible choice has allowed it to achieve savings of 5,128 tCO2e since its launch in October 2021. In numerical terms, this corresponds to the emissions of almost 850 private vehicles during the same period.
With the arrival of 3 new articulated buses and 12 standard Scania units powered by compressed natural gas (CNG), the reduction of polluting emissions will continue to advance. It will also be necessary to count on the arrival of 8 additional vehicles, scheduled for February 2024, to bring the Twisto fleet to 73 clean buses.
Taking into account the incorporation of all these new vehicles, a saving of 4,836 tCO2e is expected in 2024 alone. The total savings obtained in this same period will correspond to the CO2 emissions of nearly 1,600 private vehicles.
