Coca-Cola Italy promotes hydrogen and biomethane to decarbonize transport

Coca-Cola HBC Italy announced the creation of a consortium made up of its main carriers to decarbonize its trucking operations as part of its goal of net-zero emissions by 2040.

May 30, 2022. Coca-Cola HBC (CCHBC), the bottling company of The Coca-Cola Company in Italy, announced the creation of a consortium made up of its main carriers Italtrans, Number1, Casilli Enterprise and Favaro Servizi, together with Ikigai Capital and NVA, to decarbonize its trucking operations as part of its goal of net-zero emissions by 2040.

Together with NVA, Ikigai will deliver a pilot project in the next phases that will include the development of multi-fuel centers for the supply of green energies, such as biomethane and hydrogen, and will create the ecosystem for the supply of zero and low emission vehicles. .

“We recognize the huge challenges in achieving net-zero emissions in the road transport sector, but we also know that change is needed now and we want to lead the transition. That is why Coca-Cola HBC Italia is committed to supporting this project and our carriers in their decarbonization journey and investing resources to lead the way and become an example of a sustainable logistics sector”, said Manuel Biella, Director of the Italian Supply Chain of CCHBC.

Roberto Castiglioni, Co-Founder and CEO of Ikigai Capital, commented: “We do not believe there is a panacea to decarbonize this sector; we need different solutions for different applications. This is why we believe that multi-fuel hubs are the answer and we are eager to export our ideas to Italy with a forward-thinking client like CCHBC. It is about understanding real-life challenges through data analysis, having a holistic and technology-agnostic approach, while providing value to all project stakeholders.”
