December 10, 2025. The Colombian Ministry of Mines and Energy assured that there is no risk of a shortage of compressed natural gas (CNG) for the TransMilenio mass transit system or the rest of the country in 2026.
According to official information from the Natural Gas Market Operator, a function performed by the Colombian Mercantile Exchange, preliminary data on the supply and demand balance show coverage exceeding 98% of the projected natural gas demand for 2026.
“President Gustavo Petro’s government will not allow citizens’ finances or an essential service to be jeopardized. There will be enough natural gas in 2026, and the State will fully exercise its functions of oversight, control, and regulation of the market,” the Ministry of Mines and Energy reiterated.
Finally, the National Government reaffirms its commitment to energy security, transparency in the natural gas market, and the protection of users, especially public transportation and the most vulnerable sectors of the country.
