November 24, 2022. Comlurb launched its first compactor truck with an engine powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) in the Brazilian town of Copacabana. The novelty incorporated into the home collection routine has a much lower noise level, ideal for use at night so as not to disturb the neighbours, and is almost odorless compared to the diesel engine.
“The company is increasingly focused on making services and projects more environmentally sustainable. This truck drives energy that is cleaner and less harmful to the environment than diesel. We will try to adapt the fleet whenever possible to less polluting vehicles and face the challenge of reducing the generation of greenhouse gases,” highlighted the President of Comlurb, Flávio Lopes.
The new truck entered a trial period with the aim of testing some advantages over diesel, such as better cost per tank and range. According to the supplier company, filling the gas cylinders is equivalent to a saving of around R$ 300 compared to a diesel tank. In addition, the vehicle covers approximately 20% more kilometers per tank than a conventional vehicle.
If it passes the test, it could be included in future fleet deals/contracts. It is worth remembering that the Comlurb collection fleet already has sixteen 100% electric compactor trucks, with zero greenhouse gas emissions.
