FC Rapperswil-Jona footballers opt for natural gas-powered cars

September 17, 2021. Thanks to the contribution of the companies Energie Zürichsee Linth AG and Auto Eberle Eschenbach, eight players from the club that competes in the Swiss Soccer Promotion League, FC Rapperswil-Jona, have received Seat Arona cars powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) with the characteristic red and white colors of the sports institution.

According to President Rocco Delli Colli: “Footballers are very satisfied with CNG cars and they have also become much more environmentally conscious. With the Seat Arona with natural gas propulsion, we try to contribute to a better protection of the climate”.

FC Rapperswil-Jona wants to set an example in this regard. With its 901 members, it is one of the largest football clubs in Switzerland; more than 500 of them are young. And they have role models in the first team not only in terms of soccer skills and tactical behavior on the field, but also in terms of climate protection.

In addition to the ecological and fiscal advantages, TGI technology achieves cost savings of at least 30% compared to conventional fuels. And since players only refuel biogas, they are now nearly CO2 neutral on their trips to training and promotion league games.
