May 24, 2024. The new fleet of 50 light trucks powered by natural gas came into operation in the country, with practically zero emissions, which complies with the strict Euro VI standards, the most rigorous in the world in terms of gas emissions.
These are units that distribute eggs in stores, supermarkets and businesses in Bogotá. They are the first vehicles of this type of light load to begin operations in Colombia.
Ecopetrol, TGI and Vanti were linked to this project with the delivery of incentives established to spread the use of natural gas for vehicles (NGV).
On this occasion, they joined forces with the manufacturer DFAC Dongfeng, and the companies Alivo Renting and Huevos Kikes, which will allow the latter firm to generate savings of more than 55% in fuel costs compared to operating with other energy sources.
Through this initiative they seek to contribute to caring for air quality, and it is estimated that its implementation will result in an annual reduction of 353 tons of CO2.
David Riaño, Vice President of Low Emission Solutions at Ecopetrol, highlighted that “natural gas, a green energy according to the European Parliament, contributes to decarbonization and generates a positive impact due to its benefits for air quality. In addition, it is economical, does not require subsidies and is very safe to use.”
Mónica Contreras Esper, President of TGI, said that “the launch of this new fleet of light trucks in Bogotá is the fruit of collaboration between the chain’s agents. Just as we did with the Public Transportation System, we are paving the way for the use of clean energy vehicles. We celebrate that more and more brands are reaching citizens’ homes, after having transported their products efficiently and much cleaner.”
