FPT wins AEA ESG 2026 Award with an ethanol and biomethane-powered engine

The F1C Bi-Fuel engine project is presented as a solution capable of operating on ethanol and biomethane in light commercial applications.

June 10, 2026. FPT, an Iveco Group brand recognized globally for its sustainable and high-performance propulsion solutions, won the AEA ESG 2026 Award in the Technological and Environmental Innovation category with its project “High-Efficiency Bi-Fuel Engine Running on Ethanol and Biomethane for Light Commercial Vehicle Applications.” The award, granted by the Brazilian Association of Automotive Engineering, was presented on June 9 in São Paulo and recognizes the company’s initiative aimed at expanding the use of renewable fuels in urban transportation.

Developed by FPT in collaboration with MAHLE, the Federal University of Itajubá, Unesp, and the Federal University of Pará, the F1C Bi-Fuel engine project is presented as a solution capable of operating on ethanol and biomethane in light commercial applications. The concept was created to address one of the main challenges of current mobility: combining energy efficiency, emissions reduction, and operational viability through technologies compatible with the realities of the Brazilian market.

The concept uses a three-liter engine, with applications for vehicles between 3.5 and 7.2 tons, an Otto cycle engine, and two injection systems: one for liquid fuels, such as ethanol, and another for gaseous fuels. With 135 hp and 350 Nm of torque, the model offers the same level of power and performance as the versions already available on the market.

The 2026 AEA ESG Award consolidates FPT’s role in developing technologies for different energy pathways and reinforces the brand’s strategy of offering solutions that combine performance, operational efficiency, and a reduced carbon footprint. The award also highlights the importance of initiatives that transform the potential of Brazil’s renewable fuels into concrete applications for the transportation sector.
