GNV takes delivery of LNG-powered vessel GNV Aurora

GNV announced the delivery, at the Guangzhou Shipyard International in China, of the GNV Aurora, the second liquefied natural gas-powered vessel

January 31, 2026. GNV announced the delivery, at the Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) in China, of the GNV Aurora, the second liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered vessel in the company’s fleet and the last of the first series of four new, state-of-the-art vessels ordered from the Chinese shipyard.

The vessel will soon set sail for the Mediterranean and, once final outfitting is complete, will enter service in early April, operating daily on the Genoa-Palermo route in the domestic market.

With a gross tonnage of approximately 53,000 tons, a length of 218 meters, a beam of 29.60 meters, and a maximum cruising speed of 25 knots, the GNV Aurora will have capacity for more than 1,700 passengers in 426 cabins and will carry up to 2,780 linear meters of cargo.

With the GNV Aurora, the company unveils a new image, featuring a green leaf that symbolizes the sustainability path undertaken in recent years, thanks in part to the addition of new vessels to the fleet, all powered by LNG. The stylized electrical connection evokes cold ironing, a technology that reduces emissions in port.

This concludes the first phase of the company’s fleet renewal plan, which included the addition of four new-generation vessels, two of them powered by LNG. A second order for four additional vessels, all powered by liquefied gas, has already been confirmed, with deliveries scheduled on a semi-annual basis starting at the end of 2027.
