Île-de-France Mobilités renews its fleet with 3,500 clean buses and coaches

Île-de-France Mobilités definitively renounces diesel, waiting to have a 100% biomethane and electric fleet.

February 6, 2024. Committed to the energy transition and to the renewal of its entire fleet of buses and coaches since 2018, Île-de-France Mobilités continues its acceleration and plans to order, through the Public Transport Purchasing Central (CATP) of France, 3.500 clean buses and coaches. New vehicles that will be put into circulation, approximately 1,000 per year, between 2025 and 2028.

An order worth 1.8 billion euros, which is added to that of 500 clean midibuses ordered in 2022 by Île-de-France Mobilités and which will arrive on the lines at the same time, between 2025 and 2028.

This new order will put nearly 1,000 buses and coaches into circulation per year.

The vehicles will complement the 4,200 clean buses and coaches (almost 40% of the fleet) already in service throughout Île-de-France. In addition to reducing polluting emissions, they will be equipped with new technologies that will improve safety (rear view cameras, obstacle detection) as well as the comfort of travelers and drivers.

And from 2025, diesel and hybrid units will run on HVO, an alternative fuel made from vegetable oils. In this way, Île-de-France Mobilités definitively renounces diesel, waiting to have a 100% biomethane and electric fleet.

In terms of infrastructure, 49 bus operating centers have already been converted to new energies (electricity and biogas) and 30 sites are in the conversion process.

The energy transition in transport is a priority for Île-de-France Mobilités to respond to the crucial challenges of climate change.
