March 26, 2026. Marcopolo and Scania will deliver the first gas/biomethane-powered articulated buses in Brazil’s history, which will operate on the East-West BRT, also known as the Anhanguera Axis, Goiânia’s main transportation corridor. The initial eight units are part of a program that anticipates the incorporation of 501 biomethane buses by 2027, consolidating the capital as a national leader in the use of renewable fuels.
The event will take place at the Padre Pelágio Terminal, which was modernized and reopened for the occasion. The event also announced the commissioning of the first biomethane generation plant, along with the pioneering gas pipeline in the state of Goiás. This action confirms the progress of the New Metropolitan Public Transport Network (RMTC) in Brazil, with investments exceeding R$ 2.5 billion.
The East-West BRT, which will utilize Viale Express articulated buses with Scania K 340C A6X2/2 NB Euro 6 chassis, spans approximately 108 km, with 47 stations, 213 stops, and 15 terminals, serving more than 2.5 million passengers per month. The introduction of biomethane-powered articulated buses in this context reinforces the regional commitment to more sustainable, quieter, and more efficient mobility.
The acquisition of the eight gas-powered articulated buses was financed by Scania Bank, thus reinforcing Scania’s strategy of acting as a comprehensive partner for its customers.
