September 15, 2021. Irizar manufactures the first Irizar i4 liquefied natural gas (LNG) coach with a range of up to 1,000 kilometers for interurban or short-haul use.
The first vehicle equipped with this technology is the Irizar i4 class II model, a versatile and ideal coach as a metropolitan, commuter coach, for school transport, business or discretionary use.
It incorporates two cylindrical cryogenic tanks (-162ºC) located longitudinally on both sides in the central trunk of the vehicle, which is completely watertight and isolated from the passenger area. They have a gas capacity of 704 liters and a full load weight of 830 kg.
It complies with Regulation R66.02 and both the components used and the installation comply with the security protocols, according to Regulation 110.
As an ecological and economical alternative fuel and a mature and available technology, natural gas is a vector of great importance in the energy transition. In addition to the autonomy of up to 1,000 km, the environmental benefits provided by this technology reduce CO2 emissions by 25%, NOx emissions by 85% and particulate matter by 96%, minimizing reference emissions to levels close to zero for air quality that affect health.
In addition to providing a higher thermal performance than diesel, noise levels are reduced by 50%. In relation to operating cost, it is estimated that its decrease can reach up to 30%, depending on the differential between the cost of natural gas and diesel.
Irizar’s range of LNG vehicles includes the Irizar i4, Irizar i6S and i6 coach models. In September, the Irizar i4 will also be available with the new Scania NBG 9l Euro6E frame and 340 hp. And during 2022 this technology will be extended to the Irizar i6 and Irizar i6S models, for suburban, medium and long-distance services with a new generation NBG chassis of 13l and 410 horsepower, in lengths from 12 to 15 meters.
