Iveco S-Way LNG powered by biomethane continues its sustainable journey at the Giro d’Italia

During each day of competition, the biomethane powered S-Way LNG supplied by Vulcangas is present at the head of the Caravan.

May 15, 2023. During the 21 stages of the Giro d’Italia 2023, starting on May 6 from the Costa dei Trabocchi (Abruzzo) and arriving in Rome on May 28, the company accompanies with passion and team spirit the best cyclists in the world. In fact, during each day of competition, the biomethane powered S-Way LNG supplied by Vulcangas is present at the head of the Caravan, the popular parade of decorated vehicles that precede the competitors to create a festive, musical and entertaining atmosphere.

In line with the values of a sustainable sport such as cycling, the Iveco S-Way LNG takes several steps towards decarbonization also during the Giro d’Italia, thanks to the supply of a mature and available technology like biomethane, which allows achieving a reduction of emissions of up to 121%, as demonstrated by the study prepared by the National Research Council (CNR). Specifically, thanks to the collaboration with Vulcangas, the vehicle will be refueled at the main service stations along the route, namely San Vitaliano, Forlì, Porcari, Turin and Agrate Brianza. With a range of 1,600 km and an engine that guarantees excellent torque even on the narrowest paths and on secondary roads that are difficult to access, the Iveco S-Way proves once again to be the most suitable vehicle for long-distance transport that guarantees maximum performance for the environment and for people.

The biomethane powered S-Way LNG completes the entire Giro d’Italia route, equivalent to approximately 7,000 km in total, with a net share of CO2 emissions close to zero, thanks to the supply of domestically produced biomethane, a technology that, with its use helps to decarbonize the territory, creating new jobs and valuing waste.

Specifically, traveling 7,000 km with a diesel vehicle generates CO2 emissions of more than 5 tons, while traveling the same mileage with an Iveco S-Way LNG running on biomethane produces CO2 emissions of about 250 kg, a value that denotes the environmental benefit of this resource.
