More than 10,000 taxi drivers in Lima, Callao, and Ica are registered for the CNG discount

The measure will benefit 70,000 registered taxi drivers affected by the natural gas service interruption.

April 13, 2026. The Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru reported that the registration process to access the S/ 120 discount on compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel is progressing smoothly in Lima, Callao, and Ica, benefiting registered taxi drivers affected during the state of emergency in March.

The Director of Natural Gas Management at the Ministry’s General Directorate of Hydrocarbons (DGH), Luis Carbajal Calderón, indicated that this measure reaches approximately 70,000 registered taxi drivers, of which around 65,000 are in Lima and Callao, and about 5,000 in Ica.

He specified that, according to the latest data as of April 6, 2026, more than 10,000 taxi drivers have already completed the registration process, and that there are 148 service stations authorized to offer the benefit.

In Metropolitan Lima and Callao, the districts with the highest number of registrations are San Juan de Lurigancho, San Martín de Porres, Chorrillos, La Victoria, Los Olivos, Comas, Callao, and Cercado de Lima, among others.

It was also reported that the S/ 120 discount is not given in cash, but is applied directly to the purchase of CNG. Furthermore, it is cumulative and can be used on multiple refuelings until the total amount is reached.

As part of the support measures in response to the emergency, it was explained that the Ministry also suspended loan payments from the Energy Social Inclusion Fund (FISE) for 60 days for affected beneficiaries.
