Naturgy will have its first natural gas station operational in Asturias in the middle of the year

This installation will support the AP-66 that connects Asturias with León, the AP-64 that connects with the Cantabrian corridor of the A-8 and, at the same time, due to its proximity, to the transport of the city of Oviedo.

March 10, 2021. Naturgy, in collaboration with Transportes Frigoríficos Sandoval, will have its first natural gas service station in Asturias, Spain, operating in mid-2021, specifically, in the Granda industrial estate, in the municipality of Siero, an area of great strategic value due to its influx of heavy duty traffic.

This installation will support the AP-66 that connects Asturias with León, the AP-64 that connects with the Cantabrian corridor of the A-8 and, at the same time, due to its proximity, to the transport of the city of Oviedo. The station will facilitate the transition to a more sustainable transport of logistics and online commerce companies in the zone that develop a great activity in this area and are a reference in social and environmental commitment.

In this first phase, Naturgy will make an investment of more than 650,000 euros to start up this facility, which will have a liquefied natural gas (LNG) pump capable of supplying all types of heavy vehicles in a refueling time of between 4 and 6 minutes. In the coming months it is also planned to implement a refueling system for light vehicles with compressed natural gas (CNG).

This station is part of the company’s firm commitment to sustainable mobility, which promotes natural gas vehicles (NGV) as the best current alternative fuel for professional transport. In this sense, it is also worth noting how the firm has reinforced its commitment to Siero in particular and to the Principality of Asturias in general through the commercialization of natural gas of renewable origin in the infrastructure.
