December 23, 2022. The delegate for the Environment and Mobility, Borja Carabante, accompanied by the Managing Director of the Municipal Transport Company (EMT), Alfonso Sánchez, presented this morning the new bus model that will be incorporated this month on line 200, which connects Avenida de América with the Barajas terminals, and in the coming months, on the Exprés Aeropuerto line.
This new generation of compressed natural gas (CNG) buses, a total fleet of 17 new vehicles to connect Madrid with the Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport, is an exercise in innovation by the Municipal Transport Company together with the Swedish manufacturer Scania and the bodybuilder Castrosúa. One of the most striking innovations is, as Carabante explained, that the new vehicles are equipped with LED information screens and exterior signage. The first two windows on the right side of the bus have large screens that can be used to announce the destination to passengers, something of special importance on the Exprés Aeropuerto line.
The model also replaces the traditional rear-view mirrors with external camera equipment and three monitors. This technology offers a broader view of the surroundings and significantly reduces blind spots. In addition, by eliminating the traditional mirror, it is expected to reduce collisions with fixed objects and simplify maintenance.
The front sign, a new generation LED device, gives it high quality and ease of reading and also allows displaying both text and images.
The fleet, which complies with the Euro 6 emission regulations, is equipped with a more efficient engine adapted to the particular route of the service to the Airport, which manages to reduce fuel consumption by 10%.
