July 27, 2022. A survey by the National Traffic Secretariat (Senatran) of Brazil, released this Wednesday, shows that the number of conversions of cars to natural gas vehicle (NGV) grew by 74% in the country during the first semester of 2022, compared to the same period of 2020.

The change is motivated by high fuel prices. In the first six months of this year alone, almost 70,000 cars began to adopt the use of natural gas.

In absolute numbers, 67,487 vehicles were modified in 2022, compared to 38,747 in 2020. In 2021, the first year of high fuel prices, the increase in the same period had been 86.65%.

June 2022 data from Senatran shows that there are more than 2.6 million units with NGV equipment installed in Brazil. Of that total, around 1.6 million circulate in Rio de Janeiro.
