NIPCO Gas reduces the price of CNG and launches stations in Lagos

NIPCO Gas is about to promote the use of compressed natural gas as an alternative to Premium Motor Spirit in the commercial city of Lagos, Nigeria.

April 13, 2024. NIPCO Gas is about to promote the use of compressed natural gas (CNG) as an alternative to Premium Motor Spirit in the commercial city of Lagos, Nigeria, after announcing the completion of four filling stations.

The facilities would open for commercial operations at the end of April and would become the first of their kind in the state, which now faces long lines at the sale of fuel.

NIPCO Gas Ltd Managing Director Nagendra Verma informed the media that the company has been involved in the development and expansion of CNG since 2009.

Verma, who ensured the sustainability of supply after commissioning of the facilities, said that currently, for cars, taxis and keke’s, CNG is sold at NGN 200/standard cubic feet against the petrol price of NGN 610 per liter, in Lagos, and at NGN 230/cubic meter compared to the PMS price of NGN 670/liter in Abuja.

The official also warned that the same thing happens with heavy commercial vehicles; compressed natural gas is sold at 260 NGN/scm against the AGO price of 1,250 NGN/liter in Lagos and at 290 NGN/scm against the AGO price of 1,300 NGN/liter in Abuja.

“NIPCO Gas is confident that with the continued focus and drive of the current government, CNG will become the fuel of choice for Nigeria, which has the potential to reduce pressure on imports and Forex,” he added.
