Over a dozen CNG vehicles will hit Erie streets in coming weeks

March 23, 2024. The Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority (EMTA), in the United States, will have over a dozen new vehicles joining their fleet in the upcoming weeks.

The EMTA announced on Wednesday they will soon be unveiling six new compressed natural gas (CNG) buses along with seven new paratransit LIFT vehicles.

Although only recently announced, the six CNG buses arrived in Erie in late 2023. They will be added to EMTA routes sometime in April.

The seven paratransit LIFT vehicles are able to accommodate multiple mobility devices and can carry a number of passengers.

“We are thrilled to announce these exciting new additions to our fleet,” says Jeremy Peterson, EMTA’s CEO. “Making continued improvements to our operations allows us to provide the best possible service to the folks of Erie County and reduce our carbon footprint as CNG buses release less emissions.”

Funding for these vehicles was provided through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and the Federal Transportation Administration (FTA).
