Peruvian Ministry of Energy announces budget increase to finance CNG conversions

The Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru announced that a budget increase will be implemented in the coming days that will allow it to meet the growing demand of users who choose to benefit from the NGV Savings program.

September 6, 2022. The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) of Peru announced that a budget increase will be implemented in the coming days that will allow it to meet the growing demand of users who choose to benefit from the NGV Savings program, which finances the conversion to compressed natural gas (CNG) for light vehicles.

Said program, which is financed with resources from the Energy Social Inclusion Fund (FISE), will have a larger budget that will allow it to pay for vehicle conversions until the end of the year, and this has been communicated to the representatives of the conversion workshops, as explained by the Vice Minister of Hydrocarbons of the MINEM, Juan Saúl Sánchez Izquierdo.

“We are expanding FISE’s Annual Promotion Plan (PAP) for 2022, with the aim of ensuring the operation of the NGV Savings Program, among others. We have carried out studies and analyses, successfully concluding this process,” the official said.

In this way, the Ministry ratifies its commitment to continue promoting natural gas massification programs, due to the benefits they bring to millions of Peruvians by allowing them to have access to cheap, clean energy and will continue to underpin the energy transition process in the country.

It should be noted that NGV Savings Program, which has coverage in the Lima, Callao, Junín, Ica, Cusco, Piura, La Libertad, Áncash and Lambayeque regions until September, has financed conversions in 53,207 light vehicles, and of that total 37,812 (more than 70%) were benefited in 2022.
